The Belgian coast, known as the North Sea Coast, is a coastal strip of approximately 67 kilometers that stretches along the North Sea. From Knokke-Heist in the north to De Panne in the south, it offers a charming mix of sandy beaches, picturesque coastal villages, and a relaxed atmosphere.
The beaches are a major attraction, with fine sand and ample space for water sports and recreational activities. The region has a network of bike trails that wind through dunes and forests, providing an excellent way to explore the surrounding nature.
One of the activities proposed in our Erasmus project was the visit and understanding of coastal ecosystems both in Galicia and in Brussels. The beaches in Belgium are very similar to those in Galicia with fine sands, dunes, and forests. We were able to confirm these similarities by visiting Haan Beach on the Belgian coast and the Cíes Islands in Galicia. The coastal villages in both countries are also linked to work related to fishing.
The recovery and improvement of these natural spaces are one of the main objectives to consider, and it is vital that our students are aware of their importance.
