The Royal Greenhouses are located just a few kilometers from Brussels in the park of the Royal Castle of Laeken. They are only open to the public for 3 weeks a year, precisely when the vegetation is at its peak.
Taking advantage of the fact that our stay in Brussels coincided with the precise dates, we traveled there with our students.
Each of its 30 pavilions connected by galleries offers collections of tropical and subtropical flora, with species from the time of Leopold II, a great botany enthusiast, who managed to gather exotic species from all parts of the world. In the Winter Garden, the 25-meter-high dome houses large trees.
During our visit, we could enjoy the intense colors of geraniums, azaleas, and fuchsias flowers, the exuberance of vegetation, and the meadows and paths around the greenhouses. It was a great experience where the students witnessed the beauty and wide variety of plant species that exist, and learned the importance of preserving them and taking care of their habitats.
